ASUS ROG Zephyrus Review

ASUS is going to rock the gaming world with the latest addition in its high end gaming laptop ROG series, the Zephyrus GX501. It will be more expensive compared to similar gaming rig in its class. But the extra price also will bring some surprises as well as more advanced gaming features.

One thing that distinguishes GX501 with the previous ROG models and even other gaming laptops is its design and size. Usually, gaming laptop is so big and bulky because it needs to house huge cooling system. Furthermore, the design sometimes is a little bit over the top with blinding bright colors. GX501 is different because it is sleek and extremely slim for a gaming laptop. It only weighs 2.24 kg and the thickness is less than 18 mm. In addition, it comes with elegant metal edges, perfect edges as well as keyboards with configurable LED backlighting.

But don’t let its slim appearance fool you because GX501, just like the other ASUS ROG models, is a serious gaming laptop. Despite of its size, this gaming laptop comes with an excellent cooling system. It is equipped with ASUS’ Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) as well as special keyboard layout that will keep the laptop cool.

Best Features

The best feature of Zephyrus GX501 is of course the very powerful graphic card that is the NVidia GeForce GTX 1080. It is paired to 7th generation Intel Core i7 processors with up to 24 GB of RAM. With those dream team features, this laptop will have more than enough power to operate Virtual Reality. This is not a mere gossip because it was demonstrated in the laptop’s launching event last week in Taipei. Since it is capable to handle VR, this slim laptop will not have any problems to play even the most demanding games.

The 15.6” display has 120 Hz refresh rate which is perfect for the modern and demanding games. Furthermore, the laptop also comes with USB-C compatibility, HDMI 2.0 as well as four USB 3.1 ports.

Price and Release Date

There will be two models available. The first and the more powerful out of the two is GX501VI. It comes with NVidia GTX 1080 graphic card with price starting from $2,699. Meanwhile, GX501VS will be less powerful with NVidia GTX 1070 and the price will start from $2,299. It is still unclear when this sleek gaming laptop will be released to the market but in the North America, preorder will be opened starting June 27.
